How To Maintain Your RO Water Purifier

How To Maintain Your RO Water Purifier

Installing a water purifier at home is essential for good health. But do we take the time to choose the right one? There are several water purification technologies like gravity-based, ultra-filtration, and reverse osmosis (RO). In India, RO water purifiers are the most popular because they use a multi-stage filtration process. With proper care, an RO water purifier can last 8 to 10 years. Here are some tips to help you maintain your water purifier for clean and safe drinking water.

Why Maintain Your RO Water Purifier?

Taking care of your RO water purifier is really important for several good reasons.

1. Ensuring Excellent Performance

Regular maintenance is key to keeping your RO water purifier working at its best. By following a maintenance schedule, you can make sure your purifier always provides clean and safe drinking water.

2. Uncompromised Water Quality

The main goal of using an RO water purifier is to get clean, high-quality water. By regularly maintaining the purifier, you prevent contaminants from building up in its parts, ensuring it continues to effectively remove impurities.

3. Extended Filter Life

RO water purifiers rely on filters and membranes to eliminate impurities. Regular maintenance, including timely filter replacements, prolongs the lifespan of these components.

How to Maintain Your RO Water Purifier?

1. Regular Filter Change

Did you know that water filters need to be changed regularly? Over time, contaminants can clog the filters. If you don’t replace them, the water quality can suffer, and you might end up drinking those impurities.

2. Sediment filter

A sediment filter works like a sieve to get rid of impurities in water. RO water purifiers use several filters to clean the water, and one of these is the sediment filter. We suggest changing this filter once a year. However, if you see the water flow slowing down or notice a slight change in the watercolor, it’s a good idea to replace the filter sooner. Keeping this filter in good condition helps reduce sediment and protects the RO membranes from dirt.

3. Carbon Filter

Water from the sediment filter is passed through the carbon filter (also known as an activated carbon filter), which removes chlorine and other contaminants. We recommend you change the carbon filter once a year too, so that it doesn’t affect the performance of the RO membrane. Carbon filter filters out any kind of odor and unpleasant taste from the water.

4. RO Membrane

The RO membrane is the key component of any RO water purifier. It effectively removes harmful substances like lead, arsenic, copper, nitrates, chromium, selenium, fluoride, radium, barium, cadmium, cryptosporidium cysts, and total dissolved solids (TDS) from your water. For the best performance, you should replace the RO membrane every one to two years, depending on how much water your household uses.
